Abstract: This column is new with this issue. It will appear occasionally and will contain neither theory, nor applications, nor implementation, but will show what it is like to do MS/OR. We will be seeking the insight that can be gained from hindsight. To begin, the danger of believing everything you read---even in OR literature---is illustrated with “The Case of the Mathematical Manager.”
