Abstract:
New York City's Department of Sanitation has used MS/OR techniques to solve many of its refuse collection and street cleaning problems. Four applications are discussed---a manpower forecasting model, a truck-sizing model, production functions for street cleaning, and a model to allocate truckloads to dump sites.
