Abstract:
A successfully implemented manufacturing decision system is used to maximize the return achieved by a forest products mill from the raw material flowing to it. The system integrates real-time decision making and control with a concurrent simulation capability. This combination was extremely successful in gaining operations and management acceptance of new technology and enhancing its economic benefit. The return on capital investment exceeds 40 percent, and the integration and system-wide economic perspective have proved extremely important.
