Abstract:
Management science/operations research has followed different patterns of growth in different countries depending on a number of factors, some of which relate to the uniqueness of the socioeconomic and cultural environment. In this paper the evolution of MS/OR in Greece and the results of a study conducted in 1977 aiming at finding the extent of MS/OR applications in the country are reviewed. Indicators of MS/OR work carried out in Greece are the papers presented at the annual national meetings of the Hellenic Operations Research Society and those papers that were presented in the first four annual meetings and were MS/OR related are summarized. Finally, the current status of MS/OR in Greece as perceived by the author during his visit to Greece is evaluated.
