Abstract: A survey of 64 private and government organizations in Finland revealed that they used over 150 different operations research models. Academic operations research was reviewed on the basis of published reports, interviews with representatives of university departments, and personal observations. Considerable activity exists to promote the theory and practice of management science/operations research in industry, in the public sector, and in several universities.
