Abstract:
As my fifth year as editor of Interfaces draws to a close, let me share some thoughts about the journal's achievements and challenges. My unmatched modesty prevents more than a casual recitation of achievements: Since its founding in 1970, Interfaces has evolved into a readable journal focusing on the practice of MS/OR around the world. It has increased its “respectability” among academics (defined, perhaps, by promotion and tenure committees) while continuing to address the interests of practitioners. It has also broadened its focus with less emphasis on traditional operations management-type applications and more articles from the public sector, planning, DSS, and the like.
