Abstract: A system was developed and implemented to automate one of the major processes in scheduling crew members for an airline, the bidline generation process. Predetermined flight itineraries are assembled to form complete schedules of work for crew members over an entire month. The system uses a heuristic design and includes many techniques used in expert systems design. It provides bidlines on time that are equal to or better than those produced by a previous system at a great savings in time and effort.
