Abstract:
Members of INFORMS are all fascinated by the mathematical and statistical elegance of MS/OR models. Franz Edelman was additionally driven by a desire to implement MS/OR and to produce practical and realizable benefits. His pioneering work at RCA laid the foundation for greater recognition of the power of MS/OR to improve the quality and cost effectiveness of products and services and has also led to this the 23rd Franz Edelman Award for Management Science Achievement. This years’ competition drew attention to the international character of MS/OR by including six top quality finalists from China, India, Japan, and the United States. Applications crossed both the public and private sectors, showing the multicultural and multilingual aspects of MS/OR.
