Abstract: Interface, Inc., the world's leader in commercial carpet tile, also manufactures and sells 12-foot broadloom carpet, interior fabrics, access flooring, cushion backing, and specialty chemicals. The company has made a strategic commitment to sustainability and integrated this with a monetary incentive plan. The bonus plan gave concrete direction to the company's sustainability mission and sped up the implementation of projects. The company's progress toward becoming a sustainable corporation is due to a number of key factors, including top leadership, administrative direction, training, outside input, and financial scrutiny. Interface's experience shows that a well-designed incentive program can motivate employees to implement sustainability practices.
