Abstract:
An essay that addresses the academic requests for a model to be sophisticated and elegant, even in reality that is often not the case. An initiative for merging OR/MS with management information systems was being declined as inappropriate for several reasons because the author sees OR/MS as the application of the scientific method to management, whereas MIS is a computer-aided tool for problem solving.
