Abstract:
This paper discusses methods of evaluating petroleum prospects prior to drilling, and describes an attempt to introduce expected value techniques into the selection of drilling prospects by a petroleum exploration and development company in Australia. The degree of acceptance of such methods is discussed in relation to the differing organisational structure of the company's departments. It is postulated that the appropriate means of integration between and within the organisation's departments is altered by the introduction of expected value techniques.
