Abstract: Our friendly Interfaces editor and I recently had a phone conversation---it seemed as though we spent the day talking, but actually it was only $23½ minutes. Gene's main harangue centered around the violence we in academia have done to the profession. To wit, if we don't mend our ways, our graduates will not find gainful (professional) employment.Gene does have a way of overstating things! Even so, he does make a few good points in his own subtle way. I have been invited to record a word or two about his good points, and I do so with considerable pleasure.
