Abstract: El trabajo aborda las características de una economía monetaria, con énfasis en la integración del dinero en los modelos de equilibrio general y con el propósito de analizar y caracterizar una economía monetaria pura. Se parte de las funciones fundamentales del dinero: reserva de valor, unidad de medida y medio de cambio, enfocándose en ésta. El escrito se organiza en secciones que incluyen apartados sobre dinero y economía monetaria, el dinero como medio de pago, dinero fiduciario, organización de los mercados y sistema financiero, equilibrio general y economía monetaria, el saldo real y la utilidad del dinero y, finalmente, en las conclusiones se afirma que la teoría del equilibrio general no logra integrar de manera satisfactoria el dinero./ The work approaches the characteristics of a monetary economy, with emphasis in the integration of the money in the models of general equilibrium and in order to analyze and to characterize a pure monetary economy. Part of the fundamental functions of the money: reserve of value, unit of measurement and means of change, focusing in this one. The writing is organized in sections that include money and monetary economy, the money like means of payment, fiduciary money, organization of the markets and financial system, general equilibrium and monetary economy, the real balance and the utility of the money and, finally, in the conclusions affirms that the theory of the general equilibrium does not manage to integrate of satisfactory way the money.
