A Research Perspective on Digital Agri Resource Exchange Platforms

Abstract: The agricultural sector in India faces major challenges due to limited access to modern farm machinery and certified agricultural inputs, particularly among smallholder farmers. This paper proposes the Unified Digital Agri-Resource Exchange (UDARE), an integrated digital platform designed to improve agricultural productivity, financial efficiency, and resource accessibility through two interconnected modules: the Digital Equipment Rental Exchange (DERE) and the Certified Seed Exchange Marketplace (CSEM). The proposed system enables farmers to rent advanced agricultural equipment instead of purchasing costly machinery, thereby reducing operational expenses and preserving working capital. The saved financial resources can then be redirected toward purchasing high-quality certified seeds verified through the Seed Traceability, Authentication and Holistic Inventory (SATHI) framework. The platform also integrates Agricultural Data Exchange (ADeX) standards to ensure secure data sharing, transparency, and regulatory compliance. Internet of Things (IoT)-based telemetry systems are utilized for equipment monitoring, usage tracking, and transparent billing. Additionally, the platform supports multilingual interfaces, voice navigation, and AI-assisted advisory services to improve accessibility for rural users with low digital literacy. The proposed framework aims to increase crop productivity, reduce financial risk, and create a sustainable digital ecosystem for smart agriculture and rural economic development in India.
