Examining Language Variety as a Way to Determine the Validity of the Retranslation Hypothesis

Abstract: Retranslation Hypothesis entails initial translations are domesticated and target oriented, while retranslations are foreignized and source oriented. This paper focuses on the micro translation strategies used in translating the language variety feature in the two Arabic translations of Lady Chatterley’s Lover. The analysis of the micro strategies leads to the general approach followed in each Arabic translation and it reveals that the retranslation hypothesis is not valid as both Arabic translations are domesticated to target culture.
