Abstract:
Oleo tourism is one of the new trends in agritourism which is actualized through tourist participation into traditional agricultural activities carried out by local people, without harming the ecosystem. Within the scope of oleo tourism which is based on activities related to olive production, not only gastronomy but also nature and cultural elements are included. Turkey, which is at the forefront of olive production in the world, has high potential to integrate its geographical and cultural attractions with olive and thus can stand out in oleo tourism. The purpose of this research is to examine the potential of enabling current olive production facilities in the country within the scope of agritourism, considering the activities of the countries that can be described as the pioneers in oleo tourism. This study has importance for providing leading knowledge to regional and national organizations which are expected to work in cooperation to develop agritourism activities. It is also supposed to be supportive for olive producers to enter in new market segment and to obtain financial gain. In addition to that, it is anticipated that the research will contribute to closing the gap in the literature related to olive oil tourism.
