Abstract:
Main issue of the study is the relation between on-the-job training (ojt), firm-internal career ladders and income changes. Longitudinal data come from the German Socio-economic Panel, years 1984-1991.Results indicate that entering ojt and the effect of ojt on the further career is a simultaneous process. The bivariate probit model shows a significant raise of promotion probability, if ojt takes two to seven days and various activities in ojt have been done. The same characteristics of ojt influence short- and medium-terms income changes
