Abstract:
This paper analyses the intrafamily allocation of time and offers an economic approach for measuring the value of time devoted to home work. Using the 9th wave of the German socioeconomic panel, we estimate a shadow price of time and time-equations. According to our estimates, the net value added in home production lies between 43 % and 152 % of the family’s money income depending on family size and the wife’s employment status.
