Abstract:
For an analysis of economic interdependencies in an environmental focus a condensation of the information contained in Input-Output tables is desirable, yet without loss of the quantitative dimension. For the case of total energy requirements an approach is presented, which allows a decomposition of total energy requirements by production layers and (final) energy consuming sectors. Therefore, a mixed monetary-energetic Input-Output model and a partitioning procedure are used. Furthermore, the elimination of diagonal elements in Input-Output tables is shown to have no impact on the calculated total energy requirements but to reduce substantially the complexity of the decomposition.
