Abstract:
This paper presents the application of taxonomic methods to the spatial variations in Polish unemployment for 1994–96 exposing the Lodz voivodship phenomenon level from the national background. Two major research hypotheses undergo the empirical verification. They are time stability of the Lodz voivodship (in relation to other regions' levels of unemployment) and compatibility of results of independent investigations into the unemployment stock and unemployment flows (the factors shaping it) in the Lodz voivodship compared to all the other 48 regions in Poland. This paper concentrates on the Lodz voivodship, but a careful reader will independently analyze the spatial unemployment variations in all Polish voivodships for 1994–96.
