Abstract:
Abstract Limited research has investigated the impact of restricted abortion access on cisgender men’s lives. We use the National Longitudinal Study of Adolescent Health (n = 3642 to 6800) and logistic regression models to examine at the relationship between four indicators of abortion access (i.e., in-county abortion provider, public insurance coverage for abortion, parental consent laws, and informed consent laws) during adolescence and men’s educational achievement in early adulthood and midlife. We find a negative cumulative relationship between barriers to abortion access and men’s educational achievement; however, this relationship is concentrated among men whose parents have the equivalent of less than a high school degree. These findings suggest an important relationship between abortion access and social wellbeing not just among people who get pregnant, but also their partners.
