Abstract:
Abstract Existing conceptualizations of social accountability lack a comprehensive approach linking the determinants, initiatives, and performance outcomes of social accountability initiatives (SAIs). The present paper attempts to address this gap by developing an integrative dynamic framework of social accountability. The framework posits that the performance outcomes of SAIs influence not only the legitimacy of the SAIs but also shape the interaction effects of determinants on the existing as well as future SAIs. The proposed framework will potentially serve as a springboard to guide future research in better understanding the mechanisms of SAIs.
