Abstract: Abstract Despite a globally balanced gender ratio, women remain underrepresented in academic leadership, especially in Bangladesh. This study explores women’s leadership in public and private higher education institutions through a mixed-methods approach—literature review, desktop analysis, and surveys. It identifies key barriers such as societal expectations, family responsibilities, lack of institutional support, and personal confidence. While many women leaders report positive experiences, persistent structural challenges—like inadequate childcare—limit their advancement. The findings stress the urgent need for policy reforms to foster an inclusive academic environment and ensure equitable opportunities for women in leadership roles across Bangladeshi HEIs.
