Abstract:
In this paper, we extend the influence competition model proposed by Bedcer(1983) and Cairns(1989) into a more realistic one incorporating the possibility of losers taking the exit option. Our analysis begins with a key recognition that heterogeneity exists among the members of an interest group(in particular, lasers); this plays a crucial role in determining the degree of mobility and the possible rents of interest grow, and hence in assessing the policy implications of political economy models. This extension turns out to be effective in understanding population issues in the political economy models.
