Abstract: Dobrudja is - due to its geo-strategic position - an area open to various contacts, co-habitations, confluences, as well as to ethnic and cultural interferences. That is why to know the inheritance of the past through the light of the present seems to be a rather daring and risky attempt. It is also true that certain literary, archeological and ethnological sources have recorded interesting aspects regarding the circulation of ideas, the natives’ capacity to integrate themselves into the Roman world and into Christianity, to convert certain sacred Christian motifs to the Romanian spirituality - according to the model of the mythological way of thinking -, to enable certain practices and archaic customs to enter the present day mythological tradition of the Romanian village, to let the Church carve the ethnic and cultural profile of the Roman and Romanian communities, etc. One thing shall be taken into account: neither before nor after the moment religion turned out to be a symbol of the ethnic continuity in the Western area of the Pontus Euxinus did the intercultural dialogue experience any major syncope.
