Abstract: The Economic and Monetary Union (EMU) and the birth of the euro are ambitious political products. This project has not only violated some important economic theorems but at the same time caused a dangerous economic and political instability amongst member states. It seems inevitable to get rid of the euro before it destroys the EU.
