Abstract:
This paper estimates the distributional impact of the universal child allowances in Argentina a few months after their implementation. The study makes a contribution by estimating the potential direct impact of the program on a set of variables, including monetary poverty and inequality. The paper argues that the country has moved in the right direction by implementing a large income transfer program, but stresses the need to improve its structure and ensure its sustainability, and points out some implementation alternatives.
