Abstract: This work is an investigation about the context of the labor union activities and the labor conquests made by the workers of the main Colombian manufacturing firms. The data base is constituted by the forty nine collective bargain agreements made by big firms from January to November, 1984. The study has two levels: firstly the analysis of the main characteristics of labor union organization, and secondly the general conditions and fundamental parameters of the collective bargaining agreements: the stage at which the agreement was signed, the wage increases and the negotiation of several non-legal benefits.
