El subsidio al precio del oro en Colombia

Lecturas de Economía, 1987, issue 23, 125-156
Abstract:
Between the months of March 1984 and September 1986 the internal price of gold in Colombia was subsidized. During that period gold sales to the Banco de la República (the central bank) reached unprecedented levels. The suspicion that part of this gold arrived from outside the country provoked a controversy. This paper examines the effects of the subsidy on the commercial balance and tries to identify the potential responses of different types of gold production to such price changes, as well as assessing the efficacy of the policy experiment.
