Abstract:
This article illustrates how workers in the Colombian coffee growing sector still outrank those in the other economic sectors. On the other hand, the article shows some evidence of the elimination of dualism in the economy of the country at the same time that a process of a nationwide labor market formation is observed. The author argues that the coffee growing labor market has become a very flexible one and that it has overcome the segmentation between rural and urban labor markets. Finally, the article presents the results of an econometric model on the determinant factors of the coffee growing wage, in which the main explanatory variable is the domestic coffee price.
