Abstract: Science and technology are vital for economic growth because, through knowledge, production and life conditions change. When comparing Latin America and industrialized countries, indicators show lower participation in activities related to knowledge, although, in the last decade some countries have shown progress in science and technology. Colombia requires more effort in this area and higher investment in science and technology, as well as stronger cooperation of the productive sector in the research and development projects developed by universities. It is important to recognize the progress shown by indicators in scientific and technological production.
