Abstract:
This paper studies the spatial and productive adjustments of the Colombian industry during the years 1985-1998. this was a period of commercial reforms and reconversion process preceding the crisis of the end of the last century. From the point of view of the spatial economy and mainly of the economical geography and the structural transformation focus, patterns are studied on geographical distribution and on industrial location as well as on the behavior off work productivity to indicate efficiency. We concluded that spatial adjustments were not substantial in spite of a better performance in productivity and efficiency indicated by the peripheral industry. when comparing this last one with the central one, we find that spatial concentration and physical geography are considerable factors in Colombia, which counteract the centrifugal forces that could be originated by economic integration.
