An Economic Analysis Of Revenues From Tourism

Prof. H. W. Guthrie

Economics and Finance in Indonesia, 1960, vol. 11, 48-65

Abstract: Indonesia, like many other countries, has expressed a desire to increase its revenues from foreign tourists. Important work is being done by experts to improve and promote Indonesia's position in the market for tourism. It is not the purpose of this paper to investigate in detail the advantages which Indonesia has to offer to foreign visitors and the ways in which these advantages can be improved or publizized. This paper is intended to summarize some characteristic of the world market for tourist services and to discover some of the reasons why some countries realize large revenues from tourists while other countries receive very small amounts.
