Abstract:
Since 1956, the authors have been continuing studies of the consumption, production, and marketing of carbohydrate foods-particularly rice in Indonesia. Recently, it has been possible to make refinements earlier studies and to complete carbohydrate consumption studies through 1961. This study is of particular importance because, in contrast with more general studies made by others, analysis has been made of the consumption and production patterns of the major political regions of the country as well as for the country as a whole. It has thus been possible to bring to light important differences that exist within the country in the production and availability for consumption of carbohydrate foods. The resulting factual information and analysis should be useful not only by government policy makers but also by that wider audience interested in economic development in general.
