Indonesian Administrative Productivity: A Challenge For The Future

Abstract: There have been times in the history of the Indonesian archipelago when state administration was more highly sophisticated than that in Europe or the United States. Certainly administrative practices in the early Hindu and Sriwidjaja kingdoms were more advanced than those prevailing in the lowlands that were to become the Netherlands. No comparison is possible. The administrative systems of Madjapahit and of the Mataram state of the 18th century seem to have been far more developed than those of the British colonies which were to become the United States of America. Indonesia clearly has a rich administrative history in which it can take great pride.
