Abstract: The purpose of the paper is to present and analyse some quantitative data concerning the size, composition and growth of the labor force and employment in Indonesia based on the results of censuses and several surveys. The statistical data for such a study are limited, but .sufficient to give a fair picture of labor force characteristics. The real problem is to reconcile the different definitions and time reference periods and containing as they do weakneses inherent in all censuses and surveys.
