Abstract: Comments are provided by Prijono Tjiptoherijanto on an article by Syahruddin concerning the rate of labor force participation in Indonesia (EKI, VoLXXVI, No.3,pp.329 - 342). Prijono's comments, by his own admission are only marginal and do not indicate any basic disagreement with a backward-bending labor supply curve as hypothesized by Syahruddin. Differences occur in the emphases placed upon the significance of various factors and variable. In this context Prijono advocates the consideration of such additional factors as the level of religiosity upon the participation rate of women in the labor force in addition to her family-income and education levels. Prijono also point's at the difficulties of making clear distinction between demographic and economic aspects in anaiysing labor supply problems.
