Abstract:
This article is a further test of the stereotype that farmers have to forego significant profits as they are forced to sell their rice immediately after harvest with the profit earned by middlemen and those who can afford to hold stocks for later sale. An earlier test of the stereotype was held in the Philippines and some of the conclusions are further examined in the present paper for their applicability to Indonesia. In addition to traders and millers the study also considers the role KUD cooperatives (organizations for which there are no comparable counterparts in the Philippines).
