Abstract:
One of the most levely, on-going, debate in economics is on "the meaning of develepment' The old definition starts from the usual attempt to categorise nations based on a comparison of their percapita income levels It later moves on to a definition of "under-development," by using a certain cut-off level of per capita income as base. The effort of development is then demonstrated through the Harrod-Domar model, the succesor failure of which is indicated by the rate of growth of per capita income resulting from the incessant race between the rate of growth of capital formation and that of population. Eventhough non-economic, institutional, factors are given due consideration, but the key factor in the exercise remains in the succes or failure reached in attaining the most desirable rate of growth of per capita income.
