Abstract:
In the period of November - December 1979, a study on "changes in come distribution between land owners and peasant labourers" was undertaken in 4 West Java Villages, under the auspices of the Planning Bureau if the Department of Agriculture. The 4 villages have previously been surveyed by the Agro Economic Survey (SAE) Team of the Bogor Institute of Agriculture (IPB)-the first two in the period of 1968/1969-1972, and the Other two continuously since 1976 up to now. The present survey was undertaken via a combination of interviews based on a structured questionnaire and unstructured Interviews on key informants. The usual production function methodology was used to identify changes involved in agricultural activities, inparticular to the capital-labour proportion used in the activities. The survey found that no tractors were yet in use in all the 4 villages, and the value of fixed capital assets was insignificantly limited to such simple implements as hoe, sickle, sprayer, etc. It was decided, thus, to include only the rent value of live animals utilized in land preparation as a proxy for capital. Also, current inputs were largely confined to seeds, fertilisers, and insecticides-pecticides-herbicides.
