Abstract: Since 1979 Indonesia's economic development program entered a new phase. While the previous two Repelitas emphasized on achieving the highest growth rate, the Repelita III which was started that year emphasized more on equity program without neglecting the economic growth. This paper attempts to examine the propects for the new programs by looking into the basic philosophy of the Indonesia society all the way through the colonial and pre-colonial period.
