Abstract: This article is aimed at deriving cost function consistent with transcendental logarithmic (translog) production function. The focus of the article is to find out whether a translog production function, which is a constraint in cost minimization process, will produce a translog cost furciion. If the answer is yes, then what is (are) the necessary eondition(s). The authors find that if the translog production function is strongly separable and follows a constant return to scale process, then the cost function will he a translog function. The same result will follow from a nonlinear homogenous production function. The result of this exercise implies that duality will not always produce production and cost function in the same form, except if we accept some restrict'ons in production process. The article shows that those restrictions are strong, and substantially affect studies on allocation and distribution using production function and cost function as well.
