Abstract: The Competitiveness/the economic power of Romania depends also on training and development of economic "intelligence" of the leaders/economical decision makers, achievable goal by availability of the intelligence provided by specialized structures. A concrete step in the professionalisation of decision-making purposes, which would allow rapid processing of cues on economic inconsistencies, could be the initiation and support of a national program to promote methods and practices associated with the concept of Competitive Intelligence. The concept of competitive intelligence, which has a mature development in European and American business, requires at distinct and multiple levels (company, economic sector, economics) the existence of experts, specialized processes and tools, having a dual role: gathering and processing Ethical and legal of the information about market and competitors, along with protecting the information patrimony. Understanding the advantages of such techniques requires specific expertise and implementation of specific specialty items, it can be ensured at governmental level by intelligence services. Complementing the scheme with what the academic environment can certainly provide, supporting high-level decision, adverse developments in some economic fields, at regional or global level, can be anticipated, and fact likely to put Romanian economy into a competitive advantage with competing economies.
