Abstract: The study investigates the situation of probationers from the records of Probation Service (PS) between 2002-2013, in Cluj County. The aim of the study is to identify the family characteristics of probationers (family support, incarceration of parents/relatives, temporary emigration of parents) to see if these variables are predictive for failure or successful exit from P.S. The study is descriptive and is based on the life course approach. Kaplan-Meier analysis was used to identify possible relationships between the variables which I analyzed. In conclusion, the failure of PS is more likely for those who have parents incarcerated and have not benefited of family support during surveillance.
