ETHNOGRAPHIC RESEARCH OF ROMANIANS BETWEEN VIDIN, THE DANUBE AND TIMOC (English version)

Abstract: In the area between the Vidin, the Danube and the Timoc rivers,in North-Western Bulgaria, at the border with Serbia and Romania, there are over 30 villages and a town which are compactly inhabited by a population of Romanian ethnic origin. This space is a Romanian ethno-folkloric and linguistic extension, representing a connection with the other part of Timoc, in Serbia. The entireTimoc region, in Bulgaria and Serbia, is part of the cross-border European region. Today, Romanians in this area, as well as the Bulgarians and Serbs living in Romania could represent a bridge of cooperation between the three neighboring countries: Romania, Bulgaria and Serbia. In this article, we provide a historical, ethnological and social presentation of this Romanian community in Bulgaria, following research carried out in 2009.
