Abstract: Suicide is the third leading cause of death for adolescents 15 to 19 years old.Recent statistics indicate that the number of adolescent suicides has increased dramatically in the past decade.Suicide affects young people from all races and socioeconomics groups.It is ironically tragic that many of the adolescent suicide deaths are unintentioned-the victim did not really intend to die.Pediatricians can help prevent adolescent suicide by knowing the symptomps of depression and other presuicidal behavior.All teenagers with suicidal symptoms should know that their pleas for assistance are heard and that pediatricians are willing to serve as advocates to help resolve this crises.
