Abstract:
Given the above-average poverty risk faced by low-income self-employed persons and their families, and the potential growth of this group due to digitalization, it would be advisable to make all workers younger than 45 compulsory members of the statutory pension insurance scheme (GRV), unless they are insured through another entity, as is the case for doctors and lawyers, or through other occupational social security schemes (Berufsständische Altersvorsorge or the civil service system (Beamtenversorgung)).
