Abstract: This paper reviews the methods of measuring core inflation and introduces several criteria for comparing the performance of these methods. Using CPI monthly data during 1990:3 to 2012:11, our results show that “trimmed mean” has the best performance among other methods. On the other hand, although the performance of “CPI ex high volatile components” is not as good as trimmed mean, but this method is suitable for communication purposes of the policy maker.
