Chi sono i lavoratori poveri? [Who are the working poor?]

Abstract: L'idea di questo lavoro Š quella di tracciare un profilo del cosiddetto lavoratore povero, ovvero delle persone che pur essendo occupate, percepiscono un basso reddito, normalmente inadeguato rispetto ai bisogni di mantenimento di sŠ e dei familiari a carico. Si utilizza un semplice modello di regressione logistica per valutare l'impatto delle principali determinanti del fenomeno evidenziate dalla letteratura nonche' di alcuni fattori piu' specifici legati al rapporto di impiego, al grado di protezione, alla sindacalizzazione del lavoratore e alla negoziazione delle condizioni di lavoro, determinanti queste ultime, particolarmente rilevanti per il caso italiano [Focusing on Italy, this paper aims at detecting the profile of working poor, identified here as an employed person who earns a low wage, which may not allow him/her to cope with both personal and family basic needs. A simple logistic regression model has been implemented aimed at evaluating and comparing the impact of classical as well as underresearched determinants affecting the phenomenon. Among the latter, selected employment characteristics (employment protection, contractual relationships, trade union membership and procedures which apply to the negotiation of work conditions) have been considered, given their relevance for the Italian case.]
