Recent Condition of Rural People's Communes

Ronald Y. L. Cheng

Chinese Economy, 1977, vol. 10, issue 4, 92-117

Abstract: I had the opportunity of visiting the People's Republic of China for 22 days in May 1975 with my family. We stayed in five cities: Canton, Peking, Nanking, Wushi, and Shanghai, and visited five communes located near these cities. The following is a description of the five communes. They provide some rather interesting information on various aspects of development.
